The Harlan County School District is collecting emergency essentials for the tornado victims impacted by the horrific destruction. We will be stuffing our Black Bear box truck at the Central Office parking lot beginning this afternoon and continuing until noon on Tuesday. The urgent need is for gift cards, plastic totes with lids, bungee cords, contractor trash bags, rakes, portable non perishable snacks such as nabs, protein bars, beef jerky, candy bars, cakes, etc.. Gift cards should be grocery cards, fast food restaurants, Lowe's, 84 Lumber, Walmart, etc.. No canned food and no clothing will be accepted. Buses will be parked at Cumberland and Evarts Elementary by the end of school today. The buses will be clearly marked with donation signs. Gift cards should be dropped at central office only between 7:30 a.m. and noon on Tuesday. We are working with the Southeast /South Central Educational cooperative.

Tomorrow!!!! 12:30pm GHES will have their Awards Day for grades 2nd - 7th on Wednesday, May 28 @ 12:30pm. Your child will be bringing home a note if they will be receiving an award. Everyone is welcome to attend. Please bring I.D. and sign in at the front office.

PREREGISTRATION FOR FUTURE BLACK BEAR FOOTBALL CAMP BEGINS TOMORROW 🏈🏈🏈 Those in the Tri-Cities area can preregister at Cumberland Elementary. Those in the Clover Fork area can preregister at Evarts Elementary. Those in the Bledsoe area can preregister at Green Hills Elementary. The remainder of the county has a couple different options: There will be preregistration at the HC football complex on Friday, May 30 from 4:00 - 6:00. There will also be preregistration at the HC Football tent at the Poke Sallet Festival. You can still register your son on the day of the camp. However, preregistration guarantees them a t-shirt. Camp dates and times: 6/13 from 5:00 -7:00 kindergarten through third grade* 6/20 from 5:00 - 7:00 fourth through eighth grade * *Grade is based on the upcoming 25/26 school year

Future Black Bear Football Camp! 🏈 Coach Saylor and his staff invite your son to meet the Black Bear football team and learn the safe, proper way to play football. Proud of our Green Hills alumni – you make us shine! MICHAEL SCOTT MERRILL Merrill completed four years of JROTC, becoming the Black Bear Battalion's Executive officer, Color Guard commander, Raider commander and worked to rebuild the Raider team from the ground up after the Covid-19 Pandemic. He was also a part of FBLA, Den Keepers, and various other clubs. He graduated the Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College's nurse aide vocational program prior to high school graduation. He has enlisted into the United States Navy, with plans to become a nuclear engineer. He is set to train for nuclear propulsion for 6 years, applying to the Naval Academy or earning his bachelor's degree by the STA-21 program in physics or radiological technologies from Virginia Tech before the age of 20. Merrill said he hopes to earn a commission via Officer Candidate School or the Naval Academy to become a Naval Aviator with hopes of flying the F-18 or F/a-18, and on the civilian side earning a doctorate of medicine to be a radiologist retiring from the navy with 20 years (or more) of service. He will receive a $60,000 sign on bonus.
