Our school is excited to partner with Team Kentucky’s Appalachian STAR (Specialty Telemedicine Access for Referrals) program to provide hearing screenings for our upcoming 2026-2027 kindergarten students.
This program helps schools identify possible hearing concerns early so children can get the support they need for learning and communication. Hearing screenings are especially important for young students because untreated hearing difficulties can impact speech, language development, and school success.
Through the Appalachian STAR program:
• Kindergarten students will receive a quick and simple hearing screening at school.
• If a student needs additional evaluation, families will be notified and connected with hearing specialists.
• Follow-up care may be available through telehealth or regional clinics to make access to care easier for families.
• Follow-up hearing evaluations through the Kentucky Office for Children with Special Health Care Needs may be available at no cost to families.
This program is part of a statewide effort to improve access to hearing care for children in rural Kentucky and ensure that students who need help receive timely follow-up and support.
If you have questions about the hearing screening program, please contact the school.
Thank you for helping us support the health and learning of our students! 💙

📣 Reminder for 8th Grade Families!
Before Christmas break, I visited classrooms to share information and pass out flyers about the Rogers Explorers program—an incredible leadership opportunity for rising 9th graders.
⏳ The deadline to submit applications is January 31st! Students can access the application, application rubric, and FAQ page at: www.centeryouthprograms.com
This is a wonderful chance for students to build leadership skills, explore potential careers, and represent our school. I’ll also attach the flyer to this post for anyone who needs it again!
Rogers Explorers is a three-day, two-night summer program designed to build leadership, technology, math, science, and community service skills. It’s hands-on, fun, and hosted by partnering colleges including EKU, Morehead State, University of the Cumberlands, Union, and more.
Students from the 45-county service area may apply in 8th grade. If selected, all lodging, meals, and program costs are covered (families only provide transportation).
If you have any questions, feel free to reach out!
