Welcome to the Comet Family, Mrs. Brittany Helton. Brittany has been a substitute teacher in our district and is a great asset to our Comet team. We are so excited to kick off this school year!

We are excited to announce that Mrs. Jen Turner is joining our Comet family as a Paraprofessional Assistant. Jen worked in the Kceoc classroom inside our school for quite sometime. She is phenomenal and we can't wait to see what this year has in store for her. Welcome Mrs. Jen! ❤️📚

Here is the "history" on Mr. Tommy Key. He is our new middle school Social Studies teacher. Most of our students are familiar with him already which is a bonus! We're so excited to have you as part of our Comet Family. We wish you a great first year!

We are so excited to see you, Comets! ☄️ As we are quickly approaching the start of our 2025-2026 school year, we’d like to provide a friendly reminder of some important information that is needed to make our year successful to our students. 📚Please make sure that we have your students social security card, birth certificate, shot records, custody/guardianship paperwork (if applicable), on file. If you need to bring those items, you may do so at our Open House. 💊if your student requires a daily medication (ADHD,etc.) or emergency medications (epi-pen, inhaler, rescue seizure medications, etc) you may bring those to our school nurse, Vanessa at Open House. Those medications do require a permission form from your students doctor to be filled out prior as those medications cannot be given without one. 📌if you would like your student to receive nursing services during the school year, please make sure to return the consent form that will be sent home with your student in the “Back to School” paperwork. Any student who does not have a consent cannot be seen for any reason in the nursing station. ⚪️✏️if your student is in Kindergarten or 6th grade, they will need a physical and an updated shot record on file. If you have those, feel free to turn those in. 🏀🏈if your student is participating in sports, please note all athletes are required to have an up to date sports physical. 📝If you would like to enroll your student to be part of the Comet family, you may do so at our open house. We would love to have you! 📘Open house is scheduled on Monday August 4th,2025 from 4-6pm. Harlan County Pee Wee Football and Cheer sign ups are continuing through August 16th, the final day to register.

Opportunities include flag football for kindergarten through second graders only ($40 fee);

Football for third and fourth graders only ($50 fee);

Cheer for kindergarten through fourth grade ($50 fee).

Up to date physicals are required and registration fee due at signup.

It’s not too late to get your child signed up for Kindercamp! It is 100% free, and we will have tons of fun things going on! Our amazing kindergarten teacher and assistant will be with your kids, and they will get a jumpstart on learning! Students will also get free breakfast and lunch, so don't miss out! Two Harlan County students recently participated in a summer learning program with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the Challenger Center in Hazard. Eli Epperson, who will be in the eighth grade this fall at Cawood Elementary School, and Mason Garrett, who will be in the seventh grade at Rosspoint Elementary, took part in the day-long training. Activities included the Power of Machine Learning, how computers learn from data; the Science of Secrets, the craft behind hiding and encrypting information; What's the Matter, how temperature, viscosity and molecular interactions affect states of matter; Blast Off! DIY Rockets, using chemistry and physics to launch projectiles; and From 2D Design to 3D Printing, designing and making your own small creations. Both young men excl in science.

ATTENTION CURRENT 6TH GRADE PARENTS/GUARDIANS Please make sure your child has an updated Kentucky Certificate of Immunization (Shot Record) and the KENTUCKY PREVENTATIVE HEALH CARE FORM (Physical) are on file at your child’s school before the seventh grade year begins. These forms are required by the Kentucky Department of Education.
