Today, a Middle School student made a threatening comment. The incident was investigated by Harlan County Public Schools Police Department. A juvenile was charged, no weapon was found, and there is no ongoing threat. Superintendent Brett Johnson urges all parents to discuss with their children the seriousness of making any type of statement that can be perceived as a threat, even jokingly. As always, Cumberland Elementary and Harlan County Public Schools value school safety and transparency.
For the safety of all students, any changes to a child’s afternoon dismissal or transportation arrangements must be submitted in writing (by email or a note from home) and received by the school office no later than 2:00 PM.
👉 If you send an email, please also call the school office to confirm it has been received.
This allows us adequate time to communicate changes to teachers and staff to ensure a smooth and safe dismissal process.
We understand that emergencies may happen, and we will work with you the best we can. Thank you for your cooperation and support in helping us maintain a safe and organized end-of-day routine for all students.
