Josiah Turner

Meet Josiah Turner.

He is the 2026 champion Shooter of the Year in the Harlan County Archery League.

Turner, a sixth grader at Green Hills Elementary School, recently took home several honors following the season competitions. These include first place in championship shooter of the year, second place in 15-meter, and first place in the 2026 season opening meet. He also was champion in 2025.

Josiah is the son of Blake and Angel Turner. His coach is Andy Howard.

He said he participates in archer because “I think it is fun and I like to shoot. Archery is a sport where you use bows and arrows to shot at a target. Target has a point scale, the closer to the bullseye, the more points (you score). Highest score wins. I think archery is a really fund sport and provides a chance to meet new people.”

Josiah said he practices at a minimum two to three times each week.

He said he has not begun bow hunting, but is working on “being one . I have a hunting bow, but I still need to practice more with it. I plan to start hunting with it soon."
