Harlan County High School will be well represented during the 94th Kentucky Mountain Laurel Festival and related activities May 22-25.
Kate Cornett, daughter of Pete and Adele Cornett, will be representing HCHS during the festival and vying for the title of Mountain Laurel Princess.
Seniors Mylee Cress and Ashton Evans will be attendants.
Cornett is active in many organizations. She is head editor of the yearbook, treasurer of the National Honor Society and a member of the Beta Club and Spanish Honors Society. She was the 2025 Basketball maid of honor. She will graduate from high school in May with over 40 college credit hours.
Her plans are to attend Lincoln Memorial University to pursue a career in Nursing with hopes to become a labor and delivery nurse.
Cress is the daughter of Gary and Heather Cress. She is a member of the National Beta Club, National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, yearbook editor, and a member of the school UNITE Club and the Gifted and Talented program.
She serves as captain of the cheer team.
Her future plans are to attend Lincoln Memorial University to major in elementary education.
Evans is the daughter of Brandon and Brandi Evans. She is a member of the National Honor Society and serves as the club historian. She is the secretary of the Beta Club, a yearbook editor and member of the Spanish Honors Society and UNITE Club.
She is a member of the volleyball team, serving as captain, and participates in track and field.
Her future plans are to attend Lincoln Memorial University and major in exercise science. She then plans to attend LMU’s doctorate of physical therapy program and eventually open her own physical therapy practice close to home.
