House Bill 240 (HB 240):

We want to share some important information about recent changes to Kentucky law that affect how schools make decisions about promotion and retention for students in kindergarten and first grade. These changes come from House Bill 240 (HB 240) and will begin with the 2025–2026 school year. Please click here for more information.

Harlan County Public Schools District Facilities Plan:

  • Harlan County Public Schools is in the process of developing the District Facilities Plan (DFP). There will be a meeting of the Local Planning Committee at 5 pm on Monday, October 6th, 2025 at the Central Office conference room, 251 Ball Park Road, Harlan, KY 40831. The meeting is open to the public.

  • The Harlan County Schools Local Planning Committee will conduct an LPC Meeting on October 20th, 2025, at the Harlan County Board of Education Central Office at 5 p.m. Immediately after, the Local Planning Committee will convene a Public Forum at 6:30 p.m. to solicit public comment on the proposed District Facilities Plan. The Local Planning Committee Meeting and Public Forum are scheduled in accordance with KRS 157.620 and regulated by 702 KAR 1:001.

  • The Harlan County Schools Local Planning Committee will conduct an LPC Meeting on Monday, January 5, 2026, at the Harlan County Board of Education Central Office at 5 p.m. Immediately after, the Local Planning Committee will convene a Public Forum at 5:30 p.m. to solicit public comment on the proposed District Facilities Plan. The Local Planning Committee Meeting and Public Forum are scheduled in accordance with KRS 157.620 and regulated by 702 KAR 1:001.

  • The Harlan County Board of Education has scheduled a local board public hearing on the proposed District Facility Plan for Thursday, February 12, 2026 at the Harlan Board of Education Office at 5:30 p.m. The District Facility Plan lists the pending capital construction and/or renovation projects that the school district may undertake, and the priority order, if applicable, that projects will be initiated. Copies of the proposed District Facility Plan are available for examination by interested individuals at the Central Office, 251 Ball Park Road, Harlan, KY 40831, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Questions may be directed to Mr. Scott Pace at 606-573-4330. Those individuals who would like to comment on the proposed District Facility Plan may present oral or written documents at the local Board public hearing. The local Board of Education, after due process, will forward the approved District Facility Plan to the Kentucky Department of Education for review before final approval by the Kentucky Board of Education.

     The local Board public hearing is being scheduled in accordance with KRS 157.620 and regulated by  702 KAR 1:001.

Harlan County High School:

The staff at Harlan County High School have created a Google Classroom for in-person students to utilize. Assignments and information missed due to sickness, etc. will be made available. The link above provides each teacher, their course, classroom link and also their classroom code. Please contact your teacher or the school at 606-574-2020 for more information.
