The students had to measure specific amounts of the chemicals and find their combined mass.  Then, they mixed the chemicals and observed obvious chemical changes dealing with color changes and formation of solids.  Finally, they measured the mass again proving there was no change in mass after each chemical reaction.

“They’ve worked really hard,” Harlan County coach Anissa Alred said. “I only have four seniors, so we’re kind of a young squad. They’ve done a great job — they’ve done exactly what I’ve asked them to do, and they’ve been dedicated.”

The squad also won several other awards over the course of the season, including the 52nd District Tournament title, the Commonwealth Open and three awards at a cheerleading camp. Rosspoint Places FIRST in Middle School Academic Competition

The Rosspoint Academic Team participated in the Regional Governor’s Cup Competition on Saturday in Middlesboro, Kentucky.    They placed first overall of thirteen schools competing.  A copy of the overall results and individual scores can be found at kaac.com.    Rosspoint School faculty and staff encourage all students to excel academically, and  achieve at high levels.   The Junior High Academic Team has claimed both the district and regional Governor’s Cup Championships for five of the last six years.  Considering the fierce level of competition, this is quiet an achievement.  Students must possess a good work ethic, take pride in their accomplishments, stayed focused on set goals and spend numerous hours of their personal time studying in order to achieve at these high levels.  The quote on our academic shirt is by Thane Yost, and sums up the formula for having a successful academic team:
“THE WILL TO WIN IS WORTHLESS IF YOU DON’T HAVE THE WILL TO PREPARE.”
