- Cawood Elementary - Back to School Bash: Wednesday, July 25th, 10 am - 1 pm (Free Food, Free Clothing, Free School Supplies, Fun Games!)
- Cawood Elementary - Open House: Saturday, August 4th, 10 am - 2 pm (Food Pantry Giveaway, Household Items & Cloths Giveaway, Festival Games, Drawing for Door Prizes, Grill Out - Hot Dogs, Chips & Drinks)
- Cumberland Elementary - Back to School Blowout: Friday, August 3rd, 5 pm (Free School Supplies)
- Cumberland Elementary - Open House: Tuesday, August 7th, 3-5 pm (Meet your Teachers, Get Supply Lists, See your Classroom, Free Refreshments)
- Evarts Elementary - Open House & Ice Cream Social: Tuesday, August 7th, 3-5 pm (Classroom Assignments, Meet your Teachers, Enroll your Child, Free Ice Cream and Cake, Free School Supplies)

- Harlan County High School - Freshman Orientation: Tuesday, August 7th, 5 pm to 7 pm
- James A. Cawood Elementary - Open House: Tuesday, August 7th, 3-5 pm (Meet & Greet Teachers, Shaved Ice, Opportunity to Enroll Your Child, School Supplies & Much More!)
- Rosspoint Elementary - Open House: Tuesday, August 7th, 1-3 pm (Meet your Teachers, Classroom List, Refreshments, School Supplies)
- Wallins Elementary - Back to School Bash: Tuesday, August 7th, 4-6 pm

- GEAR UP took freshman and sophomores on a college tour of the University of Kentucky
- The Harlan County High School GEAR UP Club planted tress at Highslpint Park for a community service project. The trees were donated by Raymond Cox, Harlan County 4-H Youth Development Agent.
- The theme for the Green Hills Elementary School reading night was “Camp Out with a Good Book.”  Students participated in various activities that included the following stations:  “S’mores”, Game, Rhyming, Retelling, Puppet, and Bookmark. 
- Mrs. Diana Tipton’s and Ms. Karen Simpson’s second grade classes at James A. Cawood Elementary School participated in Arts and Humanities activities recently.  Each student tie dyed their own shirt.  Students engaged their creative sides by mixing colors, watching the colors blend into swirls and creating abstract images.

We accept the responsibility of providing a quality education to ensure that each student regardless of gender, ethnicity, socioeconomic or physically challenged status, has the opportunity to develop their abilities to the highest level.

We embrace the goals set forth in the Kentucky Education Reform Act: expecting high achievement from all students; commitment from the community, parents, faculty, staff and administrators placing emphasis on the relating education of real life experiences resulting in smooth transition into adulthood; and providing a risk free, caring, safe environment.
