Mathematics is constantly growing and being developed. It has been estimated that more mathematics have been invented since 1900 than in all the previous years of civilization. It is essential that students develop a flexible and inquiring approach to mathematics which will lead to an ever changing but personal attachment to it. To that end, we offer a program that emphasizes problem solving and mathematical relationships. The program incorporates the use of a variety of manipulative materials, calculators, and computers to allow students to develop problem-solving techniques, computational strategies, and abstract mathematical concepts.
The Harlan County High School mathematics curriculum sets forth a developmentally appropriate sequence of experiences. Each student shall progress through a series of comprehensive courses commensurate with the student's ability, interests and future goals.
