Art Department - The Harlan County High School Visual Arts Department believes art is fundamental to the entire learning process and, therefore, believes that every student should be afforded the opportunity to create and respond in the visual arts as part of the core curriculum.
CTE Department - Career and Technical Education is an essential component of the high school curriculum. For many students, it represents as much as a third of their high school experience. It is a critical component in meeting the needs of students in academic achievement, career exploration, career preparation, and leadership development.
English Department - The English Department at Harlan County High School strives to present a challenging curriculum to all students through differentiated instruction. Required courses offer an integrated approach to reading and writing and include speaking, viewing and listening, as well as critical thinking, research strategies and technology.
Mathematics Department - The Harlan County High School mathematics curriculum sets forth a developmentally appropriate sequence of experiences. Each student shall progress through a series of comprehensive courses commensurate with the student's ability, interests and future goals.
Physical Education/Health Department - The Physical Education curriculum is an integral part of the educational process for every student. It contributes significantly to the optimum development of each student. Through a well-planned and sequential program of physical education, each student will have the opportunity to develop and maintain a high level of physical fitness necessary for maximum growth, development and wellness.
Science Department - To succeed in our technologically changing society, a thorough knowledge of science is increasingly important. The Harlan County High School Science Department offers a comprehensive science program for all students. As all careers become more complex, we feel a strong need to emphasize career relationships within all our science courses. The topics discussed and issues brought out in any science class are appropriate for all of the eight career clusters.
