The NPFA recognizes a basic yet challenging level of physical
fitness. Boys and
girls scoring at or above the 50th percentile on all five
items of the President's
Challenge are eligible to receive this award. The
award consists of an embroidered
emblem, similar to the PPFA but without the
number indicating how often the
award is earned. A National certificate of
achievement is offered to compliment
or be an alternative to the emblem
(actual size: emblem is about 3" in diameter and
certificate is 8" X
10").
NOTE: students who cannot do one pull-up or the target number of
right angle push-ups must meet
the standard set for the flexed-arm hang in
order to earn the NPFA.
* Participants must at least reach these levels in all 5 events in order to
qualify
for the National Physical Fitness Award. These levels represent the 50
th percentile based
on the 1985 School Population Fitness
Survey.
